VIKTIGT: Aktivitetsundersökning av administratörer

Hej.

Riggwelter (diskussion) 12 februari 2015 kl. 22.14 (CET)[svara]
User:Riggwelter: your local policy can be applied - you need to make a request at m:SRP, linking to the policy, and a steward will do the removal. --Rschen7754 12 mars 2015 kl. 03.52 (CET)[svara]

Inspire Campaign: Improving diversity, improving content

This March, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas for improving gender diversity on Wikimedia projects. Less than 20% of Wikimedia contributors are women, and many important topics are still missing in our content. We invite all Wikimedians to participate. If you have an idea that could help address this problem, please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 31.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive, positive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign and help this project better represent the world’s knowledge!

SUL finalization update

Hi all, apologies for writing in English, please read this page for important information and an update involving SUL finalization, scheduled to take place in one month. Thanks. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 13 mars 2015 kl. 20.46 (CET)[svara]

--LPfi (diskussion) 20 mars 2015 kl. 08.59 (CET)[svara]

Real-Time Recent Changes

On it:voy we use it:Template:Quickfooter to automatically categorize the articles of "places" and some specific articles of "topics". By now I'm just importing the templates already spreaded and used by most of the language versions; but if you want I can import this too. --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 7 april 2015 kl. 13.24 (CEST)[svara]
Let's wait until we've decided what we want to do with categories vs. breadcrumb navigation. Riggwelter (diskussion) 7 april 2015 kl. 15.25 (CEST)[svara]
IMO breadcrumb is a must that cannot be removed in Wikivoyage. Categories is up to each community. --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 7 april 2015 kl. 19.39 (CEST)[svara]

Stewards confirmation rules

Hello, I made a proposal on Meta to change the rules for the steward confirmations. Currently consensus to remove is required for a steward to lose his status, however I think it's fairer to the community if every steward needed the consensus to keep. As this is an issue that affects all WMF wikis, I'm sending this notification to let people know & be able to participate. Best regards, --MF-W 10 april 2015 kl. 18.12 (CEST)[svara]

Other projects sidebar extension

To better integrate Wikivoyage with all the other Swedish wiki projects I suggest to activate this extension by default for all users. Currently can be tested/activated only by registerd users from own user preferences checking the last box (the one related to this functionality).

Briefly: this feature add on the left sidebar all the links to all the wikiprojects linked to the visualized page, when that page is linked through Wikidata to those wikiprojects.

Community must discuss and vote before asking for his activation. This feature has been already implemented (just for example) on it:voy and it:w; there can be seen how it works for anonymous IP users. --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 12 april 2015 kl. 19.52 (CEST)[svara]

Discussion

Well, before I vote: What does it do that we cannot do today? Is this feature activated on enwv? I have nothing against new tech improvements, but will it attract more users? Riggwelter (diskussion) 13 april 2015 kl. 21.14 (CEST)[svara]

Riggwelter, this feature has been emulated for years by it:voy and it:w through it:Template:Interprogetto, that in it:voy is used inside it:Template:Quickfooter. Nowadays both templates has been modified (simplifying their code) in order to be used jointly with this beta feature, so is not anymore possible to import them here with a "plug&play" approach.
This feature is not activated in en:voy (you can check it from en:voy feature menu). I think that it:voy is the first Wikivoyage project that has implemented it.
This feature do not attract new user by itself, but simplify life to visitor/editor when they need to check and compare pages in the other wikiproject of the same language (e.g. sv:w).
PS Before thinking to attract visitor, there's a lot of work to be done around here. Take into account that on it:voy it has taken me around 1 year. Here should be quicker because most of the articles are empty and the one filled, seems that have been filled with similar criteria, last but not the least, now I can apply here directly the state of the art of our solutions, while at that time I've made a lot of tries and experiments and those activities have required a huge amount of time ;-) --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 14 april 2015 kl. 00.09 (CEST)[svara]
Thanks for your explanation! Here's my thoughts on it: new technical gadgets are always interesting as such (and I see no reason not to take on good ideas from other langauge versions), but if the gadgets do not really mean that we actually attracy new visitors, then I doubt that we will benefit from them. You are right that there is a lot of work to be done around here, so my question is if adding this new feature is what we should focus at? Or do you think we have anything else that is more important, more basic to work at? Our goal is to attract more contributors to fill the guides, but I am all for things that help the new users contribute. All I want is that we focus on what we benefit most from. Riggwelter (diskussion) 14 april 2015 kl. 09.59 (CEST)[svara]
Riggwelter, this extension (as well like other templates/modules/models/policy etc...) helps to create a better environment.
I'm trying to work in parallel on various aspects to reach the target that I have in mind before say "hey guys go outside and advertise the project!" :-), because if we attract them too early, we risk that they don't like it and run away. Ok, there's also a chance that we find a good volonteer that helps, but the probability is very low and (at the moment) the risk much higher.
Currently I'm waiting
  • Dan's green light after the cleaning of Quickbar template in these articles. After that we have to manage/classify all the articles that do not have a Quickbar. But not before that, to avoid to complicate that fix.
  • Your green light for the models update with the new Quickbar. After that I'll implement a mechanism to pre-fill new empty page. But not before that, to avoid that people create new article with a wrong model.
In the meanwhile, here's an enhancement that is pretty usefull to editors during the improvement of an article, because on the left side will appear all the sources of information available within the wikiproject. --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 14 april 2015 kl. 12.08 (CEST)[svara]
I do not see myself as a part of this project, and I am not enough of a writer to be of value for your articles.
But, my opinions is that when you compare a Template-solution with a Extension-solution, they both have advantages. An Extension reach all pages, without any need of maintainace. A template-solution can locally be modified to fit your need. If svwp do not have an article in a subject, enwp, nowp or any other Project maybe have one. A template can be designed to fit how easy it is for Swedish-speaking editors to understand other languages and link en or no/da-articles when Swedish wp-articles are missing. -- Innocent bystander (diskussion) 14 april 2015 kl. 12.19 (CEST)[svara]
@Innocent bystander, IB, totally agree with you. In fact we use the extension to get the benefit of a central maintainance and optimization, customizing it with local templates/modules.
Step one is: activate the extension :-) --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 14 april 2015 kl. 18.43 (CEST)[svara]
Riggwelter, IB, let me know if you have further concern or if I may open the ticket in Phabricator to activate this exention by default. --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 15 april 2015 kl. 19.33 (CEST)[svara]
I have no concerns in any direction, but I recommend you to leave the thread open a few more days before you report to Phab. -- Innocent bystander (diskussion) 15 april 2015 kl. 21.07 (CEST)[svara]
Ok, although usually on Phab they wait at least 1 week from the discussion opening date. --Andyrom75 (discussioni) 15 april 2015 kl. 22.07 (CEST)[svara]

This is a message from the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections Committee. Translations are available.

Greetings,

I am pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections. This year the Board and the FDC Staff are looking for a diverse set of candidates from regions and projects that are traditionally under-represented on the board and in the movement as well as candidates with experience in technology, product or finance. To this end they have published letters describing what they think is needed and, recognizing that those who know the community the best are the community themselves, the election committee is accepting nominations for community members you think should run and will reach out to those nominated to provide them with information about the job and the election process.

This year, elections are being held for the following roles:

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long term sustainability of the Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. There are three positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the board elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
The Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) makes recommendations about how to allocate Wikimedia movement funds to eligible entities. There are five positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) Ombud
The FDC Ombud receives complaints and feedback about the FDC process, investigates complaints at the request of the Board of Trustees, and summarizes the investigations and feedback for the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. One position is being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC Ombudsperson elections page.

The candidacy submission phase lasts from 00:00 UTC April 20 to 23:59 UTC May 5 for the Board and from 00:00 UTCApril 20 to 23:59 UTC April 30 for the FDC and FDC Ombudsperson. This year, we are accepting both self-nominations and nominations of others. More information on this election and the nomination process can be found on the 2015 Wikimedia elections page on Meta-Wiki.

Please feel free to post a note about the election on your project's village pump. Any questions related to the election can be posted on the talk page on Meta, or sent to the election committee's mailing list, board-elections -at- wikimedia.org

Pywikibot compat will no longer be supported - Please migrate to pywikibot core

Sorry for English, I hope someone translates this.
Pywikibot (then "Pywikipediabot") was started back in 2002. In 2007 a new branch (formerly known as "rewrite", now called "core") was started from scratch using the MediaWiki API. The developers of Pywikibot have decided to stop supporting the compat version of Pywikibot due to bad performance and architectural errors that make it hard to update, compared to core. If you are using pywikibot compat it is likely your code will break due to upcoming MediaWiki API changes (e.g. T101524). It is highly recommended you migrate to the core framework. There is a migration guide, and please contact us if you have any problem.

There is an upcoming MediaWiki API breaking change that compat will not be updated for. If your bot's name is in this list, your bot will most likely break.

Thank you,

Wikidata: Access to data from arbitrary items is coming

(Sorry for writing in English)

When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects, there is currently a limitation in place that hinders some use cases: data can only be accessed from the corresponding item. So, for example, the Wikipedia article about Berlin can only get data from the Wikidata item about Berlin but not from the item about Germany. This had technical reasons. We are now removing this limitation. It is already done for a number of projects. Your project is one of the next ones:

  • 11 June 2015: all Wikiquote, all remaining Wikivoyage
  • 15 June 2015: Wikipedias: ar, ca, es, hu, ko, ro, uk, vi

We invite you to play around with this new feature if you are one of the people who have been waiting for this for a long time. If you have technical issues/questions with this you can come to d:Wikidata:Contact the development team.

How to use it, once it is enabled:

I hope it will be helpful for you and allow you to do useful things with the help of Wikidata.

Proposal to create PNG thumbnails of static GIF images

The thumbnail of this gif is of really bad quality.
How a PNG thumb of this GIF would look like

There is a proposal at the Commons Village Pump requesting feedback about the thumbnails of static GIF images: It states that static GIF files should have their thumbnails created in PNG. The advantages of PNG over GIF would be visible especially with GIF images using an alpha channel. (compare the thumbnails on the side)

This change would affect all wikis, so if you support/oppose or want to give general feedback/concerns, please post them to the proposal page. Thank you. --McZusatz (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (diskussion) 24 juli 2015 kl. 07.07 (CEST)[svara]

What does a Healthy Community look like to you?

Hi,
The Community Engagement department at the Wikimedia Foundation has launched a new learning campaign. The WMF wants to record community impressions about what makes a healthy online community. Share your views and/or create a drawing and take a chance to win a Wikimania 2016 scholarship! Join the WMF as we begin a conversation about Community Health. Contribute a drawing or answer the questions on the campaign's page.

Why get involved?

The world is changing. The way we relate to knowledge is transforming. As the next billion people come online, the Wikimedia movement is working to bring more users on the wiki projects. The way we interact and collaborate online are key to building sustainable projects. How accessible are Wikimedia projects to newcomers today? Are we helping each other learn?
Share your views on this matter that affects us all!
We invite everyone to take part in this learning campaign. Wikimedia Foundation will distribute one Wikimania Scholarship 2016 among those participants who are eligible.

Översättning av kod behövs

Hi! The italians have made a great work importing code. I have tested to add Mall:Listing and it works quite well. In the edit-window there are buttons for the listings "Listposter", we need to translate the MediaWiki:Gadget-PulsantiBase.js, the part: //Menyknappar i listpostfunktion: * {{see\n| nome=', '', ' | alt= | sito= | email=\n| indirizzo= | lat= | long= | indicazioni=\n| tel= | numero verde= | fax=\n| orari= | prezzo=\n| descrizione=\n}} should be replaced with variables according to Mall:Listing/dok. For all kinds of listings. I can't do it,, but I can write what need to be done on the discussion page. /Johan Jönsson (diskussion) 7 augusti 2015 kl. 20.06 (CEST)[svara]

I have also been testing Mall:DynamicMap and it works fine. One problem is that the code seem to be looking for <code> {{sleep {{see {{listing and if we translate our templates to <code> {{boende {{att se then they does not show up on the map. I can't find out where this is done, probably in some script far away./Johan Jönsson (diskussion) 7 augusti 2015 kl. 20.06 (CEST)[svara]

Quickbar

Hello guys. on voy/de I have implemented the quickbar as a module. The module is able to pick necessary information from WD if needed (postal code, area code, inhabitans, province, coordinates....) WD information is only used, if the information is not provided here. So it can always be overwritten locally. If you are interested in such a quickbar, please drop me a line. -- DerFussi (diskussion) 17 augusti 2015 kl. 07.35 (CEST)[svara]

Sounds great! It looks like the images already is automatically generated or something. I always find it tedious to copy those numbers from wikipedia or another laguage of wikivoyage./Johan Jönsson (diskussion) 17 augusti 2015 kl. 08.05 (CEST)[svara]
Hear, hear! Implement it on a test page so we see what it looks like. Riggwelter (diskussion) 17 augusti 2015 kl. 23.08 (CEST)[svara]
Ok. I am going to implement step by step. As I can see, your quickbar city is partly a module already. I am going to check all the modules and templates first. -- DerFussi (diskussion) 18 augusti 2015 kl. 06.56 (CEST)[svara]
I am going to wait, how the adminship election runs. Prbably i have to edit some the .css file.
BTW. I have found a glitch in your file MediaWiki:Edittools, but I can not edit it right now. This may be one of the reasons why the site looks not right when you edit it. At the end there is a missing closing span-Tag. At the end of the last but two row. But it seems its not the only one.
Next Friday (28.08.) i will fly to Stockholm. Leaving back home five days later. :) Just a short trip to explore the town. -- DerFussi (diskussion) 18 augusti 2015 kl. 07.41 (CEST)[svara]
Two people from it-voy worked quite a bit on the Quickbar, Andyrom75 and Natoshka with the help of Dan_Koehl. See discussion about the progress at Användardiskussion:Dan_Koehl.

Have fun in Stockholm. /Johan Jönsson (diskussion) 18 augusti 2015 kl. 21.08 (CEST)[svara]

Yes. I know about it. I'll check the state of the existing modules first. ... I am sure I will have. I should read a bit about Stockholm first. :) -- DerFussi (diskussion) 19 augusti 2015 kl. 10.20 (CEST)[svara]

I have created hundreds alternate Wikivoyage banners (which I think look better than many of the default banners that exist on Engvoy/Wikidata) for prominent locations

I am one of the current few active editors on the Hebrew Wikivoyage. In recent years, while spending a lot of time creating/expanding articles in the Hebrew Wikivoyage, in many instances I came across banners I disliked (for various reasons). As a result, in many instances I ended up creating alternative banners (mostly for prominent places, which I think highly deserve better banners) which I think are an improvement to what existed (I had to work with what was available on Flickr + Wikicommons, and had a license that allowed me to create derivative images). Those alternative banners were primarily made for usage in the Hebrew Wikivoyage, although through the last two years I have suggested in various instances that the English Wikivoyage consider using some of these banners as well, instead of their current banners (and as a result the English Wikivoyage community did eventually decide to use some of these alternative banners instead of the previous banners they used).

Either way, you are more than welcome to go over all of the alternative banners I created and consider using some/all of the alternative banners you might think would look better in your articles. ויקיג'אנקי (diskussion) 24 augusti 2015 kl. 19.36 (CEST)[svara]

Wikimania 2016 scholarships ambassadors needed

Hello! Wikimania 2016 scholarships will soon be open; by the end of the week we'll form the committee and we need your help, see Scholarship committee for details.

If you want to carefully review nearly a thousand applications in January, you might be a perfect committee member. Otherwise, you can volunteer as "ambassador": you will observe all the committee activities, ensure that people from your language or project manage to apply for a scholarship, translate scholarship applications written in your language to English and so on. Ambassadors are allowed to ask for a scholarship, unlike committee members.

Harassment consultation

Hjälp till att översätta till ditt språk

The Community Advocacy team the Wikimedia Foundation has opened a consultation on the topic of harassment on Meta. The consultation period is intended to run for one month from today, November 16, and end on December 17. Please share your thoughts there on harassment-related issues facing our communities and potential solutions. (Note: this consultation is not intended to evaluate specific cases of harassment, but rather to discuss the problem of harassment itself.)

This is a message regarding the proposed 2015 Free Bassel banner. Translations are available.

Hi everyone,

This is to inform all Wikimedia contributors that a straw poll seeking your involvement has just been started on Meta-Wiki.

As some of your might be aware, a small group of Wikimedia volunteers have proposed a banner campaign informing Wikipedia readers about the urgent situation of our fellow Wikipedian, open source software developer and Creative Commons activist, Bassel Khartabil. An exemplary banner and an explanatory page have now been prepared, and translated into about half a dozen languages by volunteer translators.

We are seeking your involvement to decide if the global Wikimedia community approves starting a banner campaign asking Wikipedia readers to call on the Syrian government to release Bassel from prison. We understand that a campaign like this would be unprecedented in Wikipedia's history, which is why we're seeking the widest possible consensus among the community.

Given Bassel's urgent situation and the resulting tight schedule, we ask everyone to get involved with the poll and the discussion to the widest possible extent, and to promote it among your communities as soon as possible.

(Apologies for writing in English; please kindly translate this message into your own language.)

Thank you for your participation!

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As many of you know, January 15 is Wikipedia’s 15th Birthday!

People around the world are getting involved in the celebration and have started adding their events on Meta Page. While we are celebrating Wikipedia's birthday, we hope that all projects and affiliates will be able to utilize this celebration to raise awareness of our community's efforts.

Haven’t started planning? Don’t worry, there’s lots of ways to get involved. Here are some ideas:

Everything is linked on the Wikipedia 15 Meta page. You’ll find a set of ten data visualization works that you can show at your events, and a list of all the Wikipedia 15 logos that community members have already designed.

If you have any questions, please contact Zachary McCune or Joe Sutherland.

Thanks and Happy nearly Wikipedia 15!
-The Wikimedia Foundation Communications team
