Globala robotar

Om det här projektet skulle ansluta sig till systemet med globala robotar, så krävs en lokal projekt-konsensus om saken. Därför tror jag det är bäst att diskutera saken på den plats dit flest hittar.

Globala robotar beskrivs här. De berör endast interwiki-redigeringar och justering av dubbla omdirigeringar. En robot som vill göra något mer än så, måste begära lokal robotflagga. För att få bli global robot krävs idag att robotägaren har lång erfarenhet av den typen av redigeringar på en större mängd projekt. Minimum brukar vara 100000 iw-redigeringar utspritt på flera projekt. Sådana robotar tillsätts och avsätts av Stewards vid miss-/felbruk och inaktivitet.

Det här berör alltså robotar med gedigen erfarenhet av robotarbete, och min åsikt är att vi borde kunna delegera administeringen av sådana robotar till våra Stewards. Med 100000 redigeringar och mer ska det normalt sett inte finnas så mycket behov av lokal prövning av robotens funktion. Just interwikifunktionen inom pywikipedia är nog den mest väl utprövade av all robotprogramvara, så den behöver normalt sett inte utvärderas den heller.

Det normala kravet är att en sådan robot lokalt har en hänvisning ägaren på sin användarsida.

Det finns också något som heter "Automatic approval", vilket innebär att ansökningar om lokal flagga för robotar som enbart gör interwiki (och dubbla omdirigeringar) görs på meta och tillsätts av Stewards. Robotar som ansöker om flagga för andra ändamål, måste göra ansökan lokalt. Om det inte finns någon aktiv byråkrat så tillsätts alla robotar av Stewards. Så länge vi har aktiva och engagerade lokala byråkrater ser jag inte riktigt poängen med det här.

Av Wikivoyage-projekten så har ryska anslutit sig till båda systemen, men inget annat ännu vad jag kan se. Av de svenska projekten i övrigt, så är Wikipedia anslutet till globala robotar, men inte till automatic approval. Wikiquote är anslutet till båda. I övrigt så verkar inga svenska projekt anslutna till det här.

Alla projekt är inte anslutna till Globala robotar. Svenska Wikisource vill ha koll på den typen av robotar, och delar inte ut flagga till dem, men de får köra oflaggat. Skillnaden är att det inte finns så mycket interwiki på det projektet, och det är tekniskt knepigt eftersom det tillåts finnas flera olika länkar till samma språk, vilket inte är tillåtet på tex Wikipedia.

Vissa Wikipedia-projekt är mer avvisande till interwiki-robotar. Nowp delar inte ut lokala flaggor till användare som inte kan läsa norska. Ndswp är inte med i globala robotar, och delar inte ut nya lokala flaggor till interwikirobotar om de inte kan visa att de tillför något som inte redan finns bland de befintliga robotarna. Iswp blockerar alla nya interwikirobotar, och hänvisar till att det ska lösas genom någon ny programvara som inte är färdigutvecklad än.

Så ska svenska Wikivoyage ansluta sig till globala robotar? - Ja, enligt mig, det skulle förenkla hanteringen av redan välbeprövade robotar.

This is very good analyse of the situation around the globalbot policy. The fact that nobody objected or commented this can mean that only Lavallen really cares about doing the right thing with the bots. I suggest something in the middle. As only as there "aktiva byråkrater" those will give the local botflag to the globalbots as they ask for it after a waiting periode of 7 days. Annan global administration/wmf-kultur för mindre projekt

Förutom Stewards, som jag förutsätter att alla som sedan gammalt är aktiva på wmf-projekt är bakanta med, så finns det några grupper till som berör den här wikin.

Globala tillbakarullare.

De som jobbar globalt med spam och klotterjakt kan bli globala tillbakarullare. Förutom att göra "administrativa återställningar" så kan en sådan användare flytta utan omdirigering. Man ser dem ibland på mindre projekt.

Globala administratörer.

En global administratör kan på de flesta projekten göra samma sak som en lokal administratör kan. Dessutom kan de utföra globala blockeringar. Den här gruppen går det (till skillnad från tillbakarullarna) att ställa sig utanför om man önskar. Enwikivoyage står redan idag utanför, så även svwp och svwikt. På svws har vi diskuterat saken då de här användarna kan ställa till med mer elände än vad de gör rätt. De flesta kan nämligen inte svenska, annat än vad de kan få fram ur Google translate. De är sällan bekanta med wikikulturen utanför enwp/dewp/commons.

Det finns verktyg där man kan följa SÄ på alla projekt samtidigt. Det finns dessutom verktyg som gör att man kan följa varje enskilt konto genom alla wmf-projekt. Jag använder själv det senare ganska ofta när jag själv stöter på klotter på svws. Ofta så klottrar/spammar någon som finns på svws samtidigt även på andra projekt. Hur arbetet går till finns att läsa på meta:Small Wiki Monitoring Team. Något som skulle underlätta för den här gruppen, är om Mall:Delete omdirigerar till något motsvarande på svenska. - Om inte, så kommer de snart att själva skapa en sådan mall på engelska.

Den enda aktiva globala klotterjägaren som idag kan svenska, som jag är medveten om, är Tegel, som är Steward. Det finns någon mer Steward som kan läsa svenska, men jag har inte sett honom aktiv på ett tag.

Globala undantagna från ipblock

En grupp som främst berör seriösa användare som av någon legitim anledning använder proxytjänster eller liknande. En vanlig anledning är att de sitter bakom kinesiska muren.

Globala "editinterface permissions"

Dessa kan redigera MediaWikinamnrymden och andra skrivskyddade sidor. Ofta är användarna tillfälligt tillsatta till den här gruppen av olika anledningar.

Övriga

Det finns fler globala grupper på ett wmf-projekt. På wp försvinner de i mängden, men på ett mindre projekt som detta kan de bli synligare. Man ser dem extremt sällan använda sina ganska omfattande rättigheter, utan man ser dem oftast bara sätta upp sin användarpresentation. Alla dess grupper tillsätts/avsätts på meta. Vissa grupptillhörigheter följer med anställningen på wmf, men dessa användare brukar använda andra konton när de agerar som vanliga användare. -- Lavallen (diskussion) 2 januari 2013 kl. 11.34 (CET)

sv.wikivoyage-old.org

Hej.

Jeg har skrevet lidt på http://sv.wikivoyage-old.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:Salongen men det ser ikke ud til, at der er så mange, der er aktive på sv.wikivoyage-old.org. Så derfor skriver jeg også her.

Der er stadig lidt arbejde tilbage. Filerne skal tjekkes og flyttes til Commons og filer skal slettes osv. Hvis nogen af dem der har filer på bruger-kategorien på old så må I meget gerne kigge forbi og tjekke kilde og licens.

Alle andre er selvfølgelig også velkommen til at hjælpe med at tjekke, om filerne kan bruges.

Jeg har i øvrigt også foreslået, at Stefan bliver admin på old for han er (ligesom mig) en af de mest aktive brugere i arbejdet med at flytte filer til Commons. --MGA73 (diskussion) 5 januari 2013 kl. 22.20 (CET)

Be a Wikimedia fundraising "User Experience" volunteer!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last year on the Wikimedia fundraising 'User Experience' project. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. If you haven't heard of it yet, the 'User Experience' project has the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries (outside the USA) and enhancing the localization of our donation pages.

I am (still) searching for volunteers to spend some time on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. **All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be very low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)**

Friluftsliv i Norden

Jag har skrivit en:Hiking in the Nordic countries och skulle gärna se att någon läste artikeln och kontrollerade att den inte ger en alltför felaktig bild av förhållandena i Sverige och Norge. Någonting liknande på svenska, utgående från den och en:Wilderness backpacking skulle antagligen vara mycket nyttigt. Jag tror ändå inte på en direkt översättning.

Jag skrev på engelska för att jag tror att icke-nordbor har nytta av en sådan här översiktsartikel. Bland dem kan det finnas många med stor erfarenhet av vandring, som ändå inte har en aning om vad de nordiska länderna erbjuder.

För de flesta som hellre läser svenska än engelska är Norden hemmaplan. Vi har dels en grupp utan större erfarenhet av friluftsliv, eller åtminstone av mer krävande vandringar, dels en grupp som är trygga i sina kunskaper, men som kanske fastnat i sina vanor och kunde må bra av tips på annorlunda destinationer.

Kanske det bästa vore tre artiklar: en om friluftsliv i allmänhet och tips på hur man kan börja en sådan hobby i våra länder, en andra om destinationer i Norden (kanske med näromgivning) och en tredje om destinationer längre bort, med tonvikt på sådant man bör tänka på att kan skilja sig från vad man är van.

Wikimedia är en stiftelse som enligt stadgarna saknar medlemmar. Stycket verkar avse Wikivoyage e.V. Två saker

Hej!

Kul med en svensk upplaga. Kanske bidrar med några redigeringar senare.. Två spontana frågor:

Det finns än så länge så vitt jag kan se ingen kategorisering för de existerande artiklarna. Skall det heller inte finnas? Känns som att det vore bra att bestämma innan det blir för många artiklar..

En annan sak. Finns det planer på att lansera någon form av portaler/projekt eller vad man nu skulle kalla det? På den engelska förlagan finns HBTQ-resor som projekt, vilket skulle vara intressant att starta upp även här (den vackra dag då jag har tid). Tanzania (diskussion) 17 januari 2013 kl. 19.17 (CET)

Hej. Nej, något kategorisystem finns inte, eftersom det inte ansetts behövas. Istället använder Wikivoyage en RDF-funktion som grundar sig på geografisk beskrivning. Allting utgår från det. Det här kan givetvis ändras i framtiden, men risken har ansetts vara stor för att det blir kategorikaos. Bättre då att hålla sig till geografibeskrivningen. Vad beträffar HBT-resor kan du självfallet starta ett sådant projekt om du vill, vilket i så fall sker på Wikivoyage:Projekt! Vi har vissa delar på plats redan, till exempel HBT-resor och framför allt Wikivoyage:Information för HBT-resenärer. Notera dock att projektet måste hålla sig inom ramarna för våra riktlinjer; det skall alltså inte skapas några enbart HBT-relaterade destinationsartiklar, utan sådan information skall in i de vanliga reseguiderna. Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.

Presskontakt?

Hej.

För er som inte är aktiva på Wikipedia, så fungerar jag där som presskontakt, vilket huvudsakligen innebär att jag svarar på frågor från media men också skickar ut ett pressmeddelande ibland, om det är någonting särskilt som är värt att uppmärksamma. Det händer förstås att jag får frågor även om de mindre Wikimediaprojekten, och att det hade funnits pressmeddelanden som hade varit värda att skicka ut även här, men jag har varit mycket försiktig med att besvara dem (i egenskap av presskontakt i alla fall) och definitivt inte skickat ut några pressmeddelanden för saker som inte har med Wikipedia att göra eftersom jag inte anser mig ha något som helst mandat att företräda er.

Likväl hade det kanske ibland varit bra om någon hade gjort det, och de flesta Wikimediaprojekt, åtminstone på svenska, är så små att det kan vara svårt att nå ut med separat pressinformation. Vill ni att jag skall fungera som presskontakt även för det här projektet, hålla ett extra öga på vad som händer här, besvara frågor om jag får dem och skicka ut pressmeddelanden (vad det gäller Wikivoyage hade ju lanseringen kunnat vara aktuell, till exempel) om det finns skäl till det? /Julle (diskussion) 30 januari 2013 kl. 19.57 (CET)

News from the German WV guys

Hi everybody. I have some news from de:

• The guy with the POI maps has created a world wide map feature withh all WV articles. here.... Nice. Isn't it? We considering to have it run on our own association's server. I am going to ask him how to adapt it to the other language versions. Are you intersted?
• We started a project with a twon government in Lower Saxony to create a kind of template article. A perfect article that we can show to our new contributors. "Look! This is how a perfect article can look like" Our manual of style can benefit from these experiences. During this process we want to improve our VCard. It should provide diffeent styles (inline and block style as well as a print style and a style for small screen resolutions). We picked your old layout suggestions from Texugo as well. We think about creating icons to be placed at the hotels's, sight's descripitions. Icons for WiFi, Bed&Bike, offers for disabled people, pets allowed, gayfriendly..... Do you have a discussion about it running already? Do you want to participate? Then we move this part to Meta.
• We just established an Paypal account. If you want to support the association and/or becoming a member, just take a look at our associations wiki. It's renewed and some parts have to be translated. Everybody is invited to participate. here... Please tell me, if there are some erros or missing information. I've just moved it from the old server. Svenskspråkiga Wikivoyage nu mobil!

Jag har idag kodat om delar av vår huvudsida så att den är synlig även för mobila enheter. Det finurliga med det är att även resten av svenskspråkiga Wikivoyage nu blir åtkomligt i en smartphone/motsvarande. Vi skall och får absolut inte glömma bort att ett av våra huvudmål är att utskriftsversionen kommer i första hand, men en mobilvy är ett bra komplement. Du hittar oss på adressen sv.m.wikivoyage.org. Målgruppsinriktad struktur

I olika skeden av livet och beroende av intresse letar man efter turistinfo specifikt för barnfamiljer, sevärdheter, shopping och kulturella evenemang. Särskilt info för barnfamiljer saknas ofta i vanliga turistböcker. Kan man låta denna typ av målgrupper och intresseområden slå igenom i artiklarnas struktur, på första sidan, i kartor, osv? Nej, det skulle gå emot vårt grundsyfte. Wikivoyage skall vända sig till alla resenärer, inte till en viss målgrupp, och all information för alla målgrupper skall alltså finnas i de enskilda reseguiderna. Jämför detta exempel som illustrerar varför man inte vänder sig specifikt till en viss målgrupp. Däremot finns det andra sätt att se på resande där Att resa med barn inte har någon svensk version ännu. Format för externa länkar

Jag har svårt att förlika mig med policyn för externa länkar. Skulle någon kunna motivera varför fotnotslänkar är den enda acceptabla formen? Att URLen kommer först i wikitexten när begreppslänkning används är ett ytterst tveksamt argument och argumentet att texten skulle drunkna i länkarna vid utskrift är obegripligt eftersom den utskriftsvänliga versionen av en sida renderar fotnotslänkar och begreppslänkar på nästintill precis samma sätt. Och vad menas egentligen med "Externa länkar i löpande text måste läggas till i slutet av platsinformationen, i fotnots-stil"? —Magnus Bäck (diskussion) 18 februari 2013 kl. 23.58 (CET)

Mall för rubriker

Varför förespråkas att man använder Mall:Rubrik i stället för vanlig rubrikmärkning (==Rubriknamn==)? Och varför återställs försök att byta till traditionell uppmärkning (se ändring 54730)? Som den förstnämnda mallsidan är implementerad blir det ju inte en riktig rubrik utan bara en fet text i 16 px som föregås av en radbrytning. Det ger strukturella problem och fungerar inte ifall fontstorleken i webbläsaren ökas för att t.ex. passa synskadade. Rubrikmallen beskrivs under Wikivoyage:Mallar#Rubrik som att den är bra att använda för att den inte dyker upp i en innehållsförteckning, vilket inte är ett helt dumt skäl eftersom en jättelång innehållsförteckning i början av artikeln ser illa ut, men en begränsning i rubriknivåer visade i innehållsförteckningen ska givetvis implementeras där och inte genom de mallar som används för varje rubrik. Hur som helst visar innehållsförteckningarna enbart den första rubriknivån (övriga kan expanderas fram) så jag tycker inte att det argumentet håller. När Wikitravel, föregångaren till Wikivoyage, en gång startade var det det formatet man valde att använda. Det är inte särskilt bra, men skall detta ändras skall det göras i alla artiklar samtidigt och över hela webbplatsen. Det finns inte konsensus för det ännu, men starta gärna en diskussion i ämnet, Tills vidare återställer vi strikt alla malländringar, eftersom mallarna är mycket striktare på Wikivoyage än på många andra wikiplatser. Rubriknivå 3 används inte på WIkivoyage ännu. Jag påbörjade för ett par år sedan ett jobb med att försöka spalta upp just en sådan ändring du efterlyser, men orkade inte gå iland med det. Convert complex templates to Lua to make them faster and more powerful

Greetings. As you might have seen on the Wikimedia tech blog or the tech ambassadors list, a new functionality called "Lua" is being enabled on all Wikimedia sites today. Lua is a scripting language that enables you to write faster and more powerful MediaWiki templates.

There is a new request for comment on Meta-Wiki concerning the removal of administrative rights from long-term inactive Wikimedians. Generally, this proposal from stewards would apply to wikis without an administrators' review process.

We are also compiling a list of projects with procedures for removing inactive administrators on the talk page of the request for comment. Feel free to add your project(s) to the list if you have a policy on administrator inactivity.

All input is appreciated. The discussion may close as soon as 21 May 2013 (2013-05-21), but this will be extended if needed.

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

• A software update will perhaps result in temporary issues with images. Please report any problems you notice. [3]
• MediaWiki recognizes links in twelve new schemes. Users can now link to SSH, XMPP and Bitcoin directly from wikicode. [4]
• VisualEditor was added to all content namespaces on mediawiki.org on May 20. [5]
• A new extension ("TemplateData") was added to all Wikipedia sites on May 20. It will allow a future version of VisualEditor to edit templates. [6]
• New sites: Greek Wikivoyage and Venetian Wiktionary joined the Wikimedia family last week; the total number of project wikis is now 794. [7] [8]
• The logo of 18 Wikipedias was changed to version 2.0 in a third group of updates. [9]
• The UploadWizard on Commons now shows links to the old upload form in 55 languages (bug 33513). [10]

Future software changes

• The next version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf5) will be added to Wikimedia sites starting on May 27. [11]
• An updated version of Notifications, with new features and fewer bugs, will be added to the English Wikipedia on May 23. [12]
• The final version of the "single user login" (which allows people to use the same username on different Wikimedia wikis) is moved to August 2013. The software will automatically rename some usernames. [13]
• A new discussion system for MediaWiki, called "Flow", is under development. Wikimedia designers need your help to inform other users, test the prototype and discuss the interface. [14].
• The Wikimedia Foundation is hiring people to act as links between software developers and users for VisualEditor. [15]

Wikivoyage logo issues; logo selection procedure

Hello, all. I apologize for posting in English, but I thought it was important to let you know. I would be grateful for translation of this notice.

Earlier today, I posted an announcement by the Wikimedia Foundation's legal department on Meta (m:Wikivoyage/Logo_announcement) about the Wikivoyage logo - unfortunately, for legal reasons, the one we have now will not be usable.

Sometime in the next couple of weeks, we will need to select a new Wikivoyage logo, but first I'm hoping to get feedback and assistance in making the best process for that possible. We had been considering ways to optimize logo selection by the community, with the idea that we would have plenty of time to talk about the process before needing it. Unfortunately, we now need something quite quickly. Accordingly, I'd be really grateful for feedback on the process, which has been posted here: m:Logo contest procedure. You can read a little more about it here: m:talk:Logo contest procedure. I hope you will share your questions, comments and suggestions there. Text in the left panel is smaller in edit mode

Hej, sorry for writing this in English, but my Swedish is not good enought. I don't know what causes following problem, but every time when I go to edit mode, text is smaller in the left panel than without edit mode. Also "visa", "redigera" and "visa historik" texts are smaller. Seems that also texts in the upper right corner (User name, Min diskussionssida, ...) are smaller than they should. Wikidata is coming soon

I am sorry for posting this in English. I hope someone can help translate it.

So Wikidata is finally starting to get real with this sister projects thing. We'll be starting with Wikivoyage since this is comparatively similar to Wikipedia. We'll take it easy at the beginning and just go for the language links between the different language editions of Wikivoyage.

On July 18th we will change test.wikidata.org to be able to store links to Wikivoyage in addition to Wikipedia. You can test it there then and make sure there are no huge issues we have not noticed yet. On July 22 we will enable this on wikidata.org and the Wikivoyages.

Some things to keep in mind:

• This is only for links between Wikivoyages for now. More will follow later.
• Access to the other data like timezones, airport codes and so on will not be enabled yet. That will follow later as well.
• There will be no automatic links to/from Wikipedia for now.

Some specific things about the language links:

• It'll no longer be needed to keep them in the wikitext like it is currently.
• It'll still be possible to do so however but this will overwrite the links coming from Wikidata.
• With the magicword noexternallanglinks links from Wikidata can be turned off on an article either for all languages or only specific ones.

A page on Wikidata has been created where you can find someone to help you in case of issues and as usual I am available to answer any questions you might have.

Universal Language Selector will be enabled on 2013-07-09

On July 9, 2013, Universal Language Selector (ULS) will be enabled on this wiki. The ULS provides a flexible way to configure and deliver language settings like interface language, fonts, and input methods (keyboard mappings). Making it available here is the last phase of making ULS available on all Wikimedia wikis.

Logo selection process opening

After several weeks of process discussion, the submission period for the logo selection process will be opening today, Wednesday 10 July, with the first round of voting set to launch on 24 July. Pywikipedia is migrating to git

Hello, Sorry for English but It's very important for bot operators so I hope someone translates this. Pywikipedia is migrating to Git so after July 26, SVN checkouts won't be updated If you're using Pywikipedia you have to switch to git, otherwise you will use out-dated framework and your bot might not work properly. There is a manual for doing that and a blog post explaining about this change in non-technical language. Wikidata is here!

I just wanted to let you know that the first part of Wikidata has now been enabled here. This means you no longer have to store interwiki links in the article's wiki text but can do so via Wikidata. This also means that it no longer has to be kept in sync across all the languages but is only stored and edited in one place. Please keep in mind that if you keep local interwiki links in the wiki text they will overwrite the ones on Wikidata. You can now start migrating the links or wait for one of the bots to come and do it for you. Access to other information on Wikidata like timezones, airport codes and so on is not enabled yet. This will follow in the future. Access to data from Wikidata coming to Wikivoyage

Last month Wikivoyage was the first sister project that gets their language links from Wikidata. A large part of the language links have been migrated by now from the articles' wiki text to Wikidata.

The next step is enabling access to the actual data on Wikidata for Wikivoyage. We are planning to do this on 26th of August. Once this is enabled you will be able to use data like the currency, country calling code and time zones from Wikidata if you want.

To use data from Wikidata in a Wikivoyage article you have two options:

• parser function. To get the country calling code for the country described by the article for example just use {{#property:country calling code}} or {{#property:P474}}.
• Lua. The details about access to data via Lua is explained at mw:Extension:WikibaseClient/Lua.

Important note: No articles will be changed automatically by the software to make use of Wikidata. Articles and templates will have to be adapted by you to make use of the data. meta:Wikidata/Deployment Questions answers some of the questions you might have. If you have further questions please do let me know. d:Wikidata:Wikivoyage migration has a number of people who are familiar with Wikidata and Wikivoyage who can also help you out in case you run into any issues.

I hope access to the data Wikidata can provide will help you make Wikivoyage rock even more. I travel a lot and Wikivoyage has proven to be extremely useful. Thanks for your work, folks :)

The final vote for the Wikivoyage logo selection procedure is now open. Any contributor registered on any Wikimedia Foundation project prior to May 31, 2013 is eligible to vote. The process will be using weighted voting to ensure fair representation to Wikivoyage contributors. Wikivoyage contributors include anyone who has made 50 mainspace edits to Wikivoyage prior to May 31, 2013.

Eight logo proposals take part in the final round of voting. Every voter has one vote per logo and may vote for up to three logos in total. If you vote for more than one logo, please vote for them in order of your preference. The first one you choose is your first choice; the second one, your second choice, and the third one is your third choice. Your votes will be tallied in that order.

This is not a secret ballot. Your choices are recorded in your contributions and are consequently publicly visible.

Access to data from Wikidata is now available

I just wanted to let you know that from now on you have access to the data that is on Wikidata. To get a feeling for what kind of data we are talking about please have a look at the Wikidata item about Andorra. More is being added constantly. We hope this will be useful for you and help you continue to create great articles.

To make use of the data in an article or template you have two ways:

• Parser function. To get the country calling code for the country described by the article for example just use {{#property:country calling code}} or {{#property:P474}}. (There are still issues with properties related to coordinates and time when using the parser function. bugzilla:48937 and bugzilla:50277 are tracking these.)
• Lua. The details about access to data via Lua is explained at mw:Extension:WikibaseClient/Lua.

A few things to keep in mind:

• No article or template is edited automatically by the software behind Wikidata. You will have to adapt them by hand or using a bot to make use of it.
• Right now it is only possible to access data from the specific Wikidata item that the Wikivoyage article is linked to. We are working on making it possible to access data from other items as well. bugzilla:47930 is tracking the progress on this.
